The Story of Two Clay Pots
Years before Debi Stack and Fawn Brents came together to present their first retreat, they shared life over long cups of coffee. Writing and speaking was the natural next step for two women who know firsthand that the only way to make it through life is with God’s word and a good friend.
“In 2007, Fawn and I sat in a restaurant and talked about Christian platitudes like ‘Just trust the Lord.’ “Let go, let God’ and ‘Keep the faith,’” says Debi, a humorist, author, national speaker and media guest. “Honestly, hearing those makes us a little crazy because even when they’re said with good intentions, they don’t equip women with the nitty-gritty specifics of how to trust the Lord; how to let go; how to keep the faith.”
“We took a fresh look at familiar passages from Scripture and reduced ‘faith’ to its least common denominator,” says Fawn, creator of the Blueprints of Truth series, popular Bible teacher and speaker. “We asked ourselves, ‘What do we know for sure about faith?” Out of that emerged new ways to illustrate how faith can be walked out in every circumstance and season of life.”
The chemistry that Debi and Fawn enjoyed while preparing and presenting the Keep a Smile On Your Faith retreat confirmed the need to form an official partnership. They met at a coffee shop (where else?) to discuss business details and think of a name. Remembering 2 Corinthians 4:7 (“But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us”) the choice was clear: Two Clay Pots. Fittingly, their motto is, “We pour out what God pours in.”
